This two-part drawing: Encyclopeadia of Old Masters investigates ideas of Englishness through an American collection of English art found in the 1963 Catalogue: The Paul Mellon Collection of Painting in England 1700-1850. These intricate drawings - visual quotes - derive from 18th Century Old Master paintings by English artists like Hogarth, Stubbs, Gainsborough, Devis and William Blake etc. Each individual drawing reveals its heritage in tiny lettering on the object itself.
